My name is Brad Zgonena and I take film photos.
Stepping into Chicago’s scene, I’ve found my camera as a medium to get up close and personal — with others and myself. Amongst my other photo work, capturing an unscripted atmosphere is as real as it gets. It poses a perspective for me to see more in the fleeting moments and make them last a little longer.
Going behind the curtain, there is just as much to see as the main event, but a more intimate story. I witness the in-between moments and a side that isn’t publicized. There’s an essence of knowing who people are when they aren’t in the spotlight that feels vulnerable and honest. I wouldn’t say I capture this as coverage, but rather as meeting someone where they’re at. Moving with this intent, my work has a backbone that shares a delicate narrative and liveliness that can’t be met any other way.
All of it’s an endeavor to immerse myself in the room — I just happen to be holding a camera.
